april 2010

To My Hayes,

Happy 1 month, my boy! It's hard to describe what you've done to me; stretched my heart so wide, it feels on the brink of bursting at any moment. We love you so much! You've grown a lot in 30 short days and I can't wait to see what you learn in May.

You've got your daddy's lips, and my eyes. Your body is strong and healthy. You hold your head up, kick your legs like you'd crawl right outta here, and you've been rolling from your back to your side since the day after you were born, much to the nurse's astonishment.

You are tactile to say the least. You love to be tickled & rubbed & somehow you don't mind daddy's beard when he kisses you. When you're laying on you back you spread your arms wide and when I come to give you kisses you bring your arms down and smush my face to yours.

You're still working on your roar, right now it's no more than one "na" at a time. We always know when you're tired, because you let out a "laddle laddle laddle." We miss you when you're asleep, and when you make that "na" the race is on to see who will get to your crib first.
I, of course, let your daddy win. You love to take showers with dad, you pee (which smells like buttered popcorn?) on him almost every time he changes your diaper & you'd eat for hours at a time if I let you. Your perfect spirit has turned our world upside down & we wouldn't have it any other way.

The world is yours Hayes.

Love, Mom.

Buttered popocorn, classic. And newborn poop smells like rising bread dough. Human excrement has never smelled so good.

love the 'buttered popcorn' reference...I always said that about Ada's (before solid's) and everyone looked at me crazy! So precious.
