although Hayes spends most of his time in his new room, and all his stuff is moved in there, he is still sleeping in his crib. we probably won't have him sleep in the twin bed until we absolutely have to. (have to = when Cal is too big for the bassinet in our room.) the thought of having two babies up all night is too depressing. it's terrifying me enough that i haven't even tried it yet. if you put your kid in a big bed at 17 months, please share your wisdom.
regardless of usage, the room was fun for me to put together, and mostly pretty annoying for Russ.

the closet is my favorite part. there is enough shelving and storage for his clothes, books & toys so i can put it ALL away and shut the door.
we keep his favorite books out on the shelf for easy access.
here's a shot of the curtains closed... the window treatment was super tricky.
the arch window is only 1/8 inch below the ceiling so our #1 goal of keeping all light out proved to be near impossible. the curtains are black-out and thermal lined, but weren't long enough to touch the floor. i sewed in the striped fabric & will line that with black-out as well when i get a second.
it probably looks pretty loony to have a little boy's room be all white, yet that was pretty much my only design parameter for his room. so far my only regret is the white duvet cover. the white floors are sealed really well so dirt isn't being transferred. it's not like fingerprints on a window- stuff doesn't stick to it, which is nice. the cotton duvet cover, however, seems to grab dirt a lot more easily.
now that this room is done every room in our house is complete. time to start over, muffin!
i kid, i kid.

that looks amazing! + we put gus in a big boy bed at 18 months. he did fine.
SO love it Emily! I'm crushing on that awesome chair, too! :)
i love the colors you're using--navy + white! do you have real hard wood floors or laminate?
We put Reese in at 18 months. We did start with the matress on the floor for a couple months to help her learn not to roll out of the bed, then we moved it up onto the frame. We had one night of crying, a couple nights of finding her sleeping next to the bed; I layed with her a couple of times until she fell asleep so she'd recognize that the bed is where she is supposed to be laying when sleeping. All in all it wasn't that big of a deal.
So cute, I love it!
ps I might have to steel the curtain idea. Blackout thermal lined curtains are a must, but I just love the stars!
The blue door. The blue door. The blue door. The blue door. I die for that blue door.
Seriously, Hayes is helpless against being awesome when you keep surrounding him with hipness and charm since childbirth.
we bought a second crib off KSL because I too didn't want 2 kids up at night. bailey is 2 1/2 and still in her crib. I've read books (doesn't mean they are right) who say to wait to move them out until they ask normally around 3. I was all about that. I'll keep her in as long as she'll stay in!
We started with naps in the big bed and eventually the transition was a natural course of events. :)
We moved our daughter at 18 months. She did just fine. We talked it up how it was a "big girl" bed and that she was a big girl. She did just fine. We ended up having to put up rails that fold under the bed during the day because she is a pretty crazy sleeper.
Love the room! Where did you get the book that spells Hayes?
awesome room!
I love the book that spells Hayes' name.
oh what a gorgeous room!!
I put both my kids in their own bed at 18 months.
Basically what i did was to put a mattress on the floor (it makes it easier to get in and out and only a small fall if they roll out), with really big guard rails.
I also made sure there was nothing else in the room.
I started with naps, just told them they were big kids and it was time to sleep in a big kid bed, and put them to bed as usual. There was a lot of crying with both for the first nap. The second nap not so much. And after that just fine. It was really just a 24hour thing, and then they were set.
I hope that helps a bit!!
